Celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2024, the Hotel Grande Bretagne is a landmark of Athens and a remarkable example of neoclassical architecture, which evokes a Renaissance impression of Roman architecture. Diverging from conventional classicism, its allure lies in the departure from linear design principles.
It was built as the Dimitriou Mansion in 1842 according to designs by the architect Theofilus Edvard Hansen, reconstructed from 1957-1959 by K. Voutsinas, and renovated from 2002-2003 by the architectural firm P. Masouridi and Associates.
