PART OF
NIGHT WALK by IFI Lighting “Unveiling Athens through light”
OPEN WALKS
For the first time this year, Open House Athens is collaborating with IFI Lighting to highlight Athens’ architectural heritage through light. In this journey, three iconic buildings – the Stoa Hippokratous, the National Theatre, and the neoclassical building of the Fresh Hotel – create a narrative that traverses the city’s modern architectural history.
Lighting, beyond being a technical intervention, serves as a tool for cultural storytelling, emphasizing the importance of architectural heritage in contemporary times. At Stoa Hippokratous, the modern redesign and thoughtful use of light restore the lost grandeur of the commercial arcades, which were once vibrant elements of Athens’ urban fabric. The National Theatre, a masterpiece by Ziller, is illuminated in a way that enhances its monumental character, engaging in dialogue with the cityscape. The neoclassical building of the Fresh Hotel, formerly known as “Pindaros Hotel,” with its timeless elegance, is revitalized through lighting that highlights its historical details, connecting it to Athens’ modern identity.
On this walk, visitors experience the harmonious coexistence of past and present through contemporary lighting in historic buildings, which showcases architectural heritage, preserves tradition, and at the same time, looks toward the future.
* Visitors are advised to bring their own headphones and smartphone for a more complete tour experience.
