MADE IN KALAMATA

From a young age, Irini loved to draw and dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. She had a great passion for jewelry and often opened her mother’s jewelry box, examining and wearing the pieces. She studied Economics in Athens and completed her master’s degree in Environmental Policy and Management at the University of the Aegean. For eight years, she worked in the banking sector, but her love for creation led her to start pottery classes in 2011.
She attended the three-year pottery school at the Museum of Modern Ceramics in Athens and took additional workshops in Athens, Mytilene, and Kalamata. Moreover, she participated in seminars on primitive kiln construction, paper kiln, raku, nerikomi, minerals, and their applications in ceramics. Clay captured her heart because, as a natural material, it has the magical power to connect people with nature, of which it is a part. In Lisbon in 2012, she discovered ceramic jewelry and realized that this was her calling. Her two passions, ceramics and jewelry, merged, and she began experimenting, attending jewelry seminars, and creating her own ceramic jewelry. In 2020, she fulfilled her dream and opened her own ceramics studio, “Irini Kutiva Ceramics,” in her hometown of Kalamata. Here, she creates ceramic jewelry inspired by the designs and textures generously offered by nature. Each piece of jewelry is made with much love and attention to detail. It is unique, just like every person.
In her studio, she also offers regular and standalone pottery classes for adults and children. The studio is a space for free co-creation, where students get acquainted with pottery techniques and the limitless possibilities of clay, creating their own unique items. Pottery is a therapeutic art; it relaxes and calms you, and this is evident from the very first contact with clay.
