The competition focused on designing the graphics for the OPEN HOUSE Athens & Thessaloniki 2025 events. The winner is Odysseas Zacharatos*, who will receive a full scholarship worth up to €2,400 to attend one of the six one-year workshops offered by Vakalo College.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants for their inspiring and original submissions.
For the Open House 2025 events in Athens and Thessaloniki, a visual identity was developed to highlight both the shared architectural heritage of the two cities and their distinct character. The design approach draws inspiration from the very buildings being showcased, creatively interpreting them through a contemporary lens. It is based on simple geometric shapes, while the use of vibrant colors—rather than traditional gray tones—adds energy and liveliness. This year’s identity invites the audience to discover the architecture of both cities from a fresh and inspiring perspective.
* Odysseas Zacharatos is a graphic designer based in Athens. His first encounter with graphic design came through an eccentric architectural drawing professor who revealed to him the beauty and power of visual expression. While open to all design approaches, his work is most influenced by the Swiss style and Japanese aesthetics. He has a deep passion for typefaces and the range of emotions they can convey—even within a single word. For him, graphic design is more than just design; it is a unique way to tell stories without words.
